Dear Reader.

In my role as Chaplain for Sport in the Diocese of Sheffield I have been made aware of the part sport at all levels plays in the social and cultural fabric of the city and surrounding area and the positive contribution it makes to so many people’s lives and welfare. I feel in a very privileged position being a representative of the church in a variety of different sporting communities where I have come to know firsthand the dedication and passion people put into making Sheffield and the surrounding area such a great sporting community. For this reason I have organised a celebration of sport service to give an expression of thanks for sport and give the opportunity for representatives from different sporting communities to come together in mutual encouragement and recognition.

The service is in Sheffield cathedral on Monday 15th November 2010 and begins at 7.30pm and will last no longer than an hour. There will be speakers from the world of sport sharing the important part sport has played in their lives and an opportunity for any sporting club or organization to have a display stand or similar for others to see.

I have attached an invitation for you and any others who may wish to attend whether players, staff, volunteers, or fans of sport. It would very much help seating plans if you were able to confirm yours or any others attendance. If hard copies of tickets are required or you would like to bring along a display stand please let me know.

I do hope you might be able to play your part in making this service a true representation of the support within the city and surrounding area for the sporting heritage we have much to be proud of and to give thanks for. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you wish to discuss any aspect of this celebration of sport any further.
