Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have called you. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.

SEPTEMBER 2010
“I KNOW YOUR WORKS”
“ I know your works” was the opening shot fired across the bows of each of the seven churches of Asia in Revelation 3 and 4. In the seven letters each church was reminded that its Lord is “in the midst” and aware of all their activities. He knew all their trials and temptations and the circumstances they were facing. Specific issues were addressed, problem people were identified, particular circumstances were recognised and spoken to. The Lord was deeply concerned about the condition of His church and where it was in His purpose to have “a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish” (Eph.5: 27). In other words, a church full of “overcomers” (Rev.3: 7,11,17, 3:5,12 & 21)
Revelation 2 and 3 is a reminder that the moral, spiritual and circumstantial condition of the Church matters to the Lord, and because Jesus is the “same yesterday, today and forever” (Heb 13:8), this applies to the Church in our day and in our city. He is “in the midst” of the Church in Sheffield and it must surely be true that He has specific things to say to us, that we might be an overcoming, holy and blameless people, loyal and faithful in our response to Him.
Let us pray this month that there might be significant “prophetic interruptions” in our churches, which are a clear demonstration that the Lord IS in the midst to change us and move us on in His purposes.
Let us pray that the leaders and congregations will desire to know “what the Spirit says” in their particular situations and that they will have sensitive ears, able to hear clearly what is being said from heaven and then have the will to obey!

STUDENT WORRIES
Sheffield is well known for it’s openness toward students and our economy is boosted as a result. But this year there were over 34,000 applicants for only 5184 places. Sheffield Hallam University is in a similar position. This means that many students will have to look outside the universities for jobs. The knock-on effect from government cuts in the public sector will mean that many students may struggle to find work at all.
Please pray for our young people as they make decisions about their future.
Please pray that jobs will be available for them, where universities are not able to accommodate them.

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us too, that God may open a door for our message. Col.4:2-3
